2010   M60-64
Starting a new year!  I've been jumping reasonably well in practice, clearing 13' a few times.  On March 5th  at the WMA World Indoor Champs in Kamloops, BC I jumped 4.02 and then 4.05, both jumps being new WRs. On March 12th I turned 64.  Only one more year to get the records higher or the vaulters now in the M55 age group will take them out easily when they turn 60.

At the USA Masters T&F Outdoor Championships in Sacramento on July 24th I was able to improve my outdoor WR by 2cm to 4.04m.  I hope I will have an equally good day in a year when the World Championships are held on the same track.  By then, however, I will be in a new age group.

Selected as Oregon Association of USATF Masters Field Athlete of the Year.
Selected as National Masters Track & Field 60-79 Age Division Athlete of the Year

Kamloops, BC, Canada
 1st 4.05m  wmv
(13' 3.5")
This was one of my most satisfying meets.  I successfully defended my indoor world champion title and this is the first time I have PR'd at a championship.  With this jump at 4.02m I improved my indoor WR from 4.00m and tied my PR.  The 4.05 jump was a new PR and a second WR for the day.  The two videos above are thanks to Nancy and Bubba Sparks.  This wmv video is a little closer view and is thanks to Phil Milliman (M55 vaulter) and his dad who took the video.  The following photos are thanks to Doug Smith of Ontario Masters Athletics.

Another first at this meet was being selected for drug testing.  This is a photo Bubba took of me and my chaparone Tony who was required to keep me in direct sight until I successfully provided the required urine sample.

Jun 12 Portland Track Festival 1st 12' 6"
Jun 21 Portland Masters Track Classic 1st 3.50m
(11' 6")
This was one of those competitions I would like to forget.  Nothing seemed to work well or consistently.  It was a day that reminds me this sport is truely a challenge.
Jun 27 Hayward Classic 1st 13' 0" It was good day.  All the heights I made were on first attempts.  They were 11' 6", 12' 0", 12' 6", and then 13' 0".  I then attempted 4.10m but was unsuccessful.
Jul 24 USA Masters Outdoor TF National Champs 1st 4.04m
(13' 3")
Sacramento was pretty hot, but we all did what was necessary to tolerate it. Videos of all my vaults are available at this link.  Here, as at the Hayward Classic, all the heights I made were on first attempts.  The 4.04m vault improved my outdoor WR by 2cm (~.75").  (3.50m is about 11'6"; 3.70 is about 12'2"; 3.90 is about 12'9" and 4.04 is 13'3")
And there is a series of still photos taken by Chris Stone at the same meet.  This link is to the first in the series and there are 3 more you can access by clicking “next”.  (Chris is the wife of MastersTrack.com blogger Ken Stone.)
Sep 12       At a meeting of the Oregon Association of USATF, I was presented  a plaque for being selected as Masters Field Athlete of the Year for Oregon.
